Does anybody else think they have gone too EXTREME? They recently did a show near me, for a very deserving widow & 6 children. It will be aired in 2006. After watching all of the local hype, and seeing the finnished home,(it's beautiful), I couldn't help but wonder if a more modest house would have better served this family, with the savings being spent on another local deserving family. I don't mean to rain on what they did, or minimize the need of this family, but watch the show & see if you don't agree. I understand "EXTREME" sells, but a little common sense may be in order. I will probaly recieve alot of unsavery comments from people who will think I'm being cold & insenitive, but quite the oppisite is true. What this family needs the most, they already have, a close and supportive community, faith in GOD, and each other. A house doesn't have to be "EXTREME" to be a "HOME". I sincerely wish them enjoyment and health in their new HOME. Maybe ABC will consider "COMMON SENSE MAKEOVER"

I agree, I mean come on, really! They don't take into consideration the financial up-keep on a home this extravagant. These people don't have unlimited funds! I too am not dogging the show, these are real people in real need. But they need to be more plausible.

Yep, common sense makeover would be better. Besides, the people who got these new homes would have eventually gotten out of their devastation to at least find a nice and modest appartment. Mom just gets a little jealous, saying stuff in Spanish like, "Those people are deserving, but that is just way too much!" My uncle used to say that "They're lying! How could anyone build a house like that in a week!?" I am totally sided with you. Deserving families should get regular, nice, modest homes. ABC's Extreme Makeover should reconsider and, well, with the homeless, kids in Africa not getting adequate food, tuberculosis rampaging in less-developed countries, donate money to them. Getting a place to live in is what really matters. Enough with these silly fantasies and luxuries that aren't necessary.

Hi,
I agree, some of the homes are just too much, not only in size but also the way they decorate, paint color choices, furniture, etc.
I watched one the other day and I'm glad I wasn't the one going in there because I would have bursted the decorators bubbles.
The decorators should at least ask the people to give them a general idea on their dream home. My daughter watched a show the other day and the lady saw her new home for the first time
and said," This is horrible". Finally some honesty.

You are so incredibly right! BUT I guess we would get bored to see common houses like yours and mine every sunday. And then, the fact that these people are given these amazing houses for the wonderful things they have achieved in their lives, only makes you realize that we do not deserve such honors when all we do is a boring 9 to 5 job and watch TV on weekends!

Does it cost as much as you think - do catepillar loan their trucks so they get free advertisement in return? Do DIY stores get a free plug if they offer some stuff - same with household goods. The companies are seen to be doing good things for deserving causes (which is good advertisement) plus you get to see the products fixed and working - another free advert!
I think product placement has more to answer than you might think and the cost of the programme is not as high.

I agree. Not to mention the associated costs the family is left with as far as maintenance and upkeep, repairs, and property tax. Habitat for Humanity does a wonderful, common sense job.

I agree with what you're saying and have often thought the same about lotteries. I mean, who needs 25 million dollars, when you could have 25 lotteries for 1 million and help that many more people! Although, I probably wouldn't think that if I won!! lol!

I COMPLETELY agree with you! Instead of 1 extreme makeover, I wonder how many modest makeovers they could have done...You're right. All most of us need are a supportive network, faith, and each other.

Well, it's was originally a spin off of the show "Extreme Makeover" which gave huge makeovers that included weight loss, plastic surgery, make up, the whole shebang. That was extremely extreme. I see now that they could have named it something now but probably don't for confusion.

I very much agree that the show spends too much on each house, if they spent even 50,000 on 10 houses instead of 500,000 on one more people would be helped
