Hi, I am a starting actor in Texas. Typical stuff. Waiting tables and auditioning and working as an extra, featured extra and stand in on the Fox show Prison Break. I'm making as many connections as possible. I just wondered how long it takes before you really get a start.

You don't mention classes or theatre. Keep improving as an actor so that when an opportunity does appear, you are ready for it. It's a little like being struck by lightning, you can improve your chances of getting hit by standing on a hill with an iron bar in your hand. Keep puting yourself in situations where you can be seen and be ready.

You're definitely on the right track. The thing about Texas is that you don't need to be in the union to work as an actor. However, outside of Texas you do. If you want a better chance at getting more roles you should join SAG and get an agent. With your amount of experience this should be relatively easy.

Good Luck

don't do what i did, when i was a young man i dreamed of being an actor. every time i saw a movie i was the male lead for days, finally i auditioned for a local theatre production of "the man who came to dinner" when i was in my 20's, i was led to believe that i would get a starring role.. what i got offered was the role of a prison guard or police office. i don't even remember if it was speaking or non speaking, i got offended and never auditioned again. soon after i got married, had kids and never again pursued my dream

You're doing all the right things. There's really no way to know how long it's going to take.

As one of my mentors told me, the audition is your job. The role is the cool thing you get to do.

Stay positive, stay active, things will go your way. Break a leg!
