She will be here for a couple of hours. We used to go spend a couple of hours with relatives who flew through Dallas frequently, but I'm not sure if there's any place now to do that (maybe at baggage check) or if it would be worth the trouble with the new security requirements. Has anybody visited a traveler during a layover at DFW recently, or at any other U.S. airport?

I think most restaurants are inside the security checkpoints, so you wouldn't be able to go to them without a ticket. However, take a look at Au Bon Pain Cafe at Terminal D. The airport Web site says it's outside security. There may be others outside security, but this is the only one I can find on the Web.

I Web surfed around because I remember going to a restaurant outside security when my wife and I met her mom at the airport. This was months ago, so I can't remember the name of the terminal or the restaurant, but I do remember that both were swanky and new.

The first Web address I've listed is the main site for the airport. The second one shows the shops and restaurants at Terminal D. For more information on Au Bon Pain, you can click on its link in the second site or you can click on the third site I've listed below.

Important point: I think your daughter will be able to take the train to Terminal D, if her plane hasn't already landed there. However, I think you can get to the train only if you're inside security, so be sure to park at Terminal D. If you don't, you might have to take a bus to get there because the terminals are so far apart.

Finally, a lot of what I'm saying is speculation. To make sure about this, Web surf some more or try the airport at 972-574-8888. You can get the restaurant at 972-973-4338.

I hope this helps. Good luck and happy travels!

There really isn't any area to comfortably "hang out" outside of the secure areas. All of the restaurants and shops are inside the secure area. She would have to go outside the secure area to the baggage claim or ticketing area to visit with you. She'd also need to get back in line for security about an hour before her flight leaves to make sure she gets through in time, so she'd only have about an hour to visit.

your time frame. I live in a

2 hours may not be enough time, as she'll need the time to get back through security.

you can if she leaves security. But then she will have to go back through it again.
