I have a friend.. who is taking a year off from college.. and i wanted to buy her a gift. Books are great, she loves to read. I wanted to get her something that can help her figure things out.. whether she wants to go to Medical school, or research.. she is a Neuroscience major... so any thing relevant?

I agree with the "chicken soup" suggestion. Honestly, to be practical, a book isn't going to make someone decide or know what he/she wants to do, but the chicken soup books are really inspiring. I would not suggest some self-help book that is designed to help someone decide on a career path. that's stupid. something inspiring is the way to go. and the chicken soup books have tons of little short stories and passages, so she can always fit a reading into her schedule.

A Brief History of Everything by Ken Wilber

I am among those who think Ken Wilber is one of the great thinkers of our time. His great contribution to world thought is as an integrator of a staggering breadth of philosophical thought, psychological research and accounts of mystical experience. He maintains that each of the wisdom traditions and methods of inquiry into human experience has at least some valid contribution to make.
