I used to be a server, but my Dr. told me no serving because I was cramping when I carried trays...however my current postion has me bent over mopping underneath counters and picking things up off the floor..basically ALOT of bending.. is this bad for the baby? I am 5 months now and its my first pregnancy...

Talk to your doctor. First of all, this is terrible for your back and could lead to injury due to the extra weight up front of the baby. If you were cramping from carrying trays, I don't imagine this is a much better situation for you. Cleaning chemicals, as previously mentioned, can be dangerous. If your doctor clears you for this work, wear gloves when using cleaning supplies and absolutely do not use cleaners that give off fumes without proper ventilation and breaks. Also get a maternity belt to assist your back, it will make a difference.

This is what the AMA (American Medical Association) has for work guidelines during pregnancy:

Secretarial, light clerical, pro./managerial all 40 weeks
Seated light tasks (prolonged or intermittent) all 40 weeks
Standing
more than 4 hours in a shift end at 25 weeks
30 min of every hour end at 32 weeks
less than 30 min/hr all 40 weeks
Stooping bending below knee level
more than 10 times/hr end at 20 weeks
less than 10 times/hr more than 2 times/hr end at 28 weeks
less than 2/hr all 40 weeks

Hope this helps you, speak to your doctor the next business day. Your situation may require immediate change due to problems with cramping in the past. Good luck.

If you've always been an active person, I would imagine it would be fine. Of course all doctors are going to advise you not to lift or over exert yourself. You'll find that in a few more weeks, it will take effort to pick things up... so you may want to think about other options (if you can). I worked construction until I was 8 months prego... and I'm not talking about waving a flag or sign. I installed kitchens, bathrooms, siding... with my husband for our own business. I only stopped working because running to the bathroom every 15 minutes wasn't letting me get any work done. Other than that, I did my share of lifting... and lots of bending. My baby arrived 12 days early in under 4 hours and is a strong healthy big boy.

I'm sure you'll be fine, but if it's bothering you then you need to tell your doctor and then let your boss know.
I did a lot of bending over when pregnant with my son...he's my first and only....but it didnt bother me really, i worked at kmart,a lot in the jewelry department in fact and every morning I had to sit on a short little stool behind the counter and do an audit on every piece of jewelry over $250,it took an hour or more everyday, the bigger i got the more it bothered me and kind of hurt my stomach because i had to reach so far foward into the cases, i didnt tell my doctor instead told my boss and he ordered a special stool just for me that i could make go higher or lower...it helped being able to lift myself up more.

You should be ok unless you start hurting or something then make sure you rest. I don't think the chemicals will bother you though, I mean, I am a stay at home mom and I clean with cleaners everyday. All my kids are perfect! :) Just don't lift heavy items. When I was prego with my 1st I worked and my manager didn't let me lift anything afraid I would get hurt. Congrats on your baby!

The baby is surrounded by a uterus full of amniotic fluid so he/she should be fine. However, you should be very careful not to overdo it because that can cause you to put too much stress on yourself and thus, on your baby. Use your level of fatigue as a guide. If you're tired, rest. I just delivered my first baby, a boy, 2 months ago. I used to have cramping, too. Just be careful but don't worry about it too much if you're feeling fine. Congrats on your pregnancy and good luck!

I don't think it's particularly bad for the baby, but soon enough it's going to get incredibly painful on your back and legs. You will able have trouble bending over once you "pop," so it's bound to be uncomfortable for you eventually.

its not good if the mop water you are using contains chemicals, inhaling those could cause complications and deformities. but only you can know how far to push your body, youll know when enough is enough!

yes it can... the more that you lift the more chances you have to lose the baby.
