Was in a head-on collision the other day. Air bag deployed. Chest hurt really bad. Still does. Hand also burned from gas in air bag. Has anyone ever had this experience? Did you black out and not even see your air bag until it was deflated? How come no one tells you that air bags hurt?

I've never had that experience, but i know that air bags are designed to completely inflate and deflate in about one tenth of a second. yes it hurts! you hit it at your speed plus the other objects speed (unless stationary). think about how much it woulda hurt without the air bag. in bad head-on accidents, without an air bag the steering wheel is notorious for ripping your aorta off of your heart and cause you to bleed to death internally in less than ten seconds. count your blessings and don't drink and drive!

Air Bags are there to protect you from serious and/or fatal head & chest injuries They can create minor injuries or superficial burns.
You might have a cracked rib, from the impact, but that is less serious than a lungs & heart crushed by a steering wheel. A cracked rib although painful, ( & should be looked at by a Doctor )can heal & is not Life Threatening.

Your air bag probably saved your LIFE & you should be thankful that your injuries, from the accident, were LESSENED by the air bag.
Sorry that you weren't told that an air bag could create minor injuries but I'm sure that you have heard the rumor that "AIR BAGS SAVE LIVES"

Now go see a Doctor , take something for the pain, put some ointment on the burn, & be thankful that you are ALIVE to do so.

A friend of mine was in that situation. if your chest hurts go see a doctor, it doesnt sound good.

the idea behind airbags is that you hit them rather than flying out the car. if you hit anything fast enough and hard enough its gonna hurt. it would have hurt more to have hit your steering wheel and gotten whiplash and other injuries.
