I did it. I also taught myself Piano, bass, I am teaching myself bagpipes, and I want a violin. I also want a pipe organ. Just keep practicing, and you'll get it.

If you can afford it, take lessons from THE BEST in town. even if you only take 4-8 lessons make sure you pound them with your questions and they will get you started the right way. Saving you years of sorting through the crappy information that wastes your time. Ask them what books they recommend. those books should keep you busy for years.

Learn the notes on the guitar and to read music from the get go. Dont just be another dumb guitarist, learn real professional musician skills.

in the meantime, use this online guitar trainer at this site to learn the notes on the guitar, do it every day for 20 minutes and it will get you started.

They also have a note trainer, do this as well for 15 minutes a day and start reading music.

the best musicians learn in many different ways.
from my experiance, learning many songs note for note will show you how music is put together.

Also you need to learn songs by just hearing it, this takes time to learn but with practice, it will get easier. this will give you a good musical ear.

Listen to "Smoke On The Water" and find the notes.

Graduate to "Iron Man."

When you have learned and played these tunes for week after week and your about out of your mind! Not to MENTION your Family is hoping you move out soon!! ... go get a book or find a good teacher, because to play an instrument is a very personal thing. It's a means for your emotions to come from your heart, and manifest in sound. Teachers, are the fastest way to a new beginning.

If you can sit down and figure out something By Ear, cool. Go with that. Or, just sit and play ... originals are the spice of life.

Have fun!

Yes. Buy a average guitar and a chord book. There are instructions inside on how to learn playing the guitar. Learning to play the guitar need patience and dedication. Its easy, all you have to do is to make your fingers relax and memorize the correct placement of finger on every chords you are going to play. Playing it with your friends help a lot. Wish you good luck and play it cool.

Yep. www.ultimate-guitar.com best tabs on the internet. Mxtabs was, but they're being sued because they're so accurate.

Just learn how to read tabs - it's easy.

I think it's better to teach yourself because then you put more passion into it and you WANT to do it.

All five instruments I play are self taught, including the guitar. I hate lessons, but not from my dad

I am planning on self learning and I really dunno about it but I think why not.
