I am afraid the ones they sell in the stores will be too big for a tiny 8 lb baby boy. Any suggestions for homemade costumes / bought costumes that are super small?

You could buy a solid colored hooded onesie and simply buy that fur fabric and use that to make ears, paws and a tail for pretty much any animal you'd like. I did that with my son ( he was just over a month old on his first Halloween). I sewed it to look like a teddy bear, and i received many compliments on it too. Best of all it's super simple, I didn't have a sewing machine at the time and just did it by hand in less than an hour.

You could have someone make you a Pumpkin costume those are always cute on infants. Remember he will be growning and Halloween is till 2 in a half months from now. You can also try looking at Avon books they always carry Halloween costumes.
Good Luck in looking and congratulations on your baby boy.

Well when my aunt couldn't find a costume for her newborn baby on halloween she made him a fan of the "eagles" philadelphia football team and he looked like those guys with beer bellies except actually cute. You could do the same thing with some paint saying "GO _____" on his tummy and draw footballs on his diaper!

Baby's are always cute in pumpkin costumes, but tigers, cats, anything that can be cute. and I would think that they would have something at like a baby specialty store!

awe, something cute. For a little boy you could make him a puppy, with a headband with ears, and a matching shirt/pants set. Try going to babys r' us, or other children stores, they usualy have cute ones, my son was a tiger his first halloween.

You still have time for him to put on some weight - they grow SO fast.

But look at what you wrote "super small", so why not "super small man"?
