People are out to scare you, thats all......ESPECIALLY the "older people" like to tell you how horrible it is....thats because they didnt have the things we have now to control the pain. One word EPIDURAL....it's one of the greatest things ever invented I think, and it's not as bad as some people might say...there are risks but they dont usually happen, like they say its bad for the baby and your baby will come out all drowsy and sleepy...yes he may but it didnt hurt him. Actually my son came out eyes wide open and I swear he didnt shut them for the first hour after he was born...i had an epidural. I had just turned 20 yrs old a few weeks before i had my son, I weighed 100 lbs before i got preggy and 150 lbs by the time i had him, I'm 5'4 and a pretty small person,I have a very small frame. My son weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 21 inches long, I was in labor for 17 hours, but was home for the first 10 hours of it..all i had was a bad back ache, when i went to the hospital...i still felt okay but I thought since I had been home for so long I thought I'd better go get checked just in case my baby decided to fall out of me or something. It was after the doctor broke my water (didnt hurt, and they do it with something that looks just like a plastic crochet stick) thats when i started getting real contractions, but i deal with pain pretty good and i really wasnt that uncomfortable...they came in and said "okay, you're 6-7 centimeters dialated,if you want your epidural you have to get it now." I felt okay still and was dealing with the contractions, but said okay give it to me....so i guess i really didnt get to feel the "real labor" contractions, shortly after i got it i could see how bad my contractions were by watching my monitors...i was thankful that i wasnt feeling those and i layed there watching shrek while I felt absolutely NOTHING.I couldnt even move myself, i felt nothing from my chest down, the nurses and staff had to move me into position to push and prop my legs for me, i felt nothing and it was scary because i couldnt even feel myself pushing,so i wasnt doing a very good job, I'm not even going to say what the doctor did so i could feel my pushing, but 30 minutes later my son was born.I did have an epesiatamy but of course didnt feel it. I looked over and told his father, you know,I could do this again.
It's bad though when the epidural wears off...you didnt have to feel anything during your whole labor and when that pain med wears off it kind of hits you hard. I hurt so damn bad that i could barely move or let alone sit, I was dizzy as all hell when i stood up for the first time in 8 hours and passed out in the bathroom, thank god i was already done and there was a nurse in there with me to catch me.Labor is very hard on your body and I lost a lot of blood...I had to sit with one leg underneath me for 2 months...if my crotch even touched the couch, it hurt.
Oh and I did lose 42 lbs of the 50 i had gained.....yeah.....lol..

Oh, yes! Very painful. I did it without any meds (my choice), and let's just say... I kept apologizing to the doctors for screaming during the contractions. I swore I would never go through that again... and here I am 5 months prego again. I had my first 12 months ago, and the pain is etched in my mind. Of course it was all worth it... otherwise I wouldn't be doing it again. But it is the most painful experience of my life. When the contractions come on... you think you'll pass out from the pain... and just wait until you get close to the actual birth. The pressure you'll feel to push is so strong and hard, you'll think you'll explode right there. The worst part is being told you can't push yet... when all you want to do is just that. It pretty much feels like your back is breaking... and you have to take the most fierce crap in your life. There's no way to escape the pain (unless you're medicated) until the baby arrives. Just like magic... Poof! it's all gone.

It is uncomfortable and there is some pain and pressure, but it isn't the most painful thing I've ever been through. Just remember, your body was designed to give birth and you CAN do it just fine! Try to relax and don't fight the contractions.
I labored in hot water the whole time and the water labor was actually better at relieving the pain than the epidural I had with my first baby.
You'll do fine. Childbirth is no where near as painful as something like passing a kidney stone. You'll be alright!

It's very painful, but you forget what the pain really felt like within a couple of hours. It's nothing to be scared of, you'll be okay. I went so fast that I only had time to be given meds through my IV. I told my husband in the middle of my labour that this would be our only child, and I was 100% serious. Two hours later I was already talking about when I would have the 2nd one.

no its not that painful. I have had 2 children with no pain medicine my little girl was 7 pounds 18 in long and i was in labor with her start to finish for 2.5 hours. my little was way over 8 pounds and 20.5 inches long start to finish time was 1 hr and 40 minutes. Dont get me wrong its uncomfortable, but i have been told that the pain medicine slows down your labor and you dont know when its time to push the doctor has to tell you to push. Without the pain medicine you can push when the baby pushes and shorten your labor time. a total of 9 pushes both of my deliveries and no pain medicine. its really a great experience

What does the time frame have to do with it? Yes it is painful and there is no point in trying to convince someone its not. The fact is that some people just handle pain better than others. Then again that's why they make epidurals.

Well I don't think the timeframe matters their labor hurt just like other peoples labor but YES it hurts, that is what epidurals and pain meds are for though.... don't be worried you will do fine because a womans body is designed to give birth

12 days ago, 12 years ago...what's the difference?? It's very painful, yes!!! But that's what epidurals are for, if that's your thing. I had 5, all at home, no meds. But you have a choice.

Worse. Although I did have a bad birth. Why does it matter if its in the last 12 days, has it suddenly got more painful?

yes it is ad bad and painful as everyone says until the anesthesiologist comes in with that epidural. that will be the only time that you would want to have someone stick a needle in your spinal cord!

and for after delivering the baby morphine will become your best friend !
