It is more difficult, since there are many fewer posts available. Aside from this, the skill set required is much broader, since administrators need to have expertise in management, budgeting, legal and policy areas as well as a deep understanding of the education process (hence the additional qualifications!). It's a great job, but a tough one to get and to do well.

I've been hired for both positions, and it's harder to land a job as a principal. Perhaps the main reason is there are so many more teaching positions than principals... a school of 500 may have over 25 teachers but only one building principal. Also, the interviews are more intense for a principal... I was interviewed by several school board members in addition to the school superintendent. As a teacher, I was usually hired by the building principal or the superintendent... just a one-on-one interview.

Principals are usually teachers with some educational administration degree added to the mix.

When did it become difficult to land a job as a teacher? Most school districts are begging for qualified teachers. Especially if you are bilingual.

do no longer wait. Get your self a itemizing of each college district interior your objective section. call, word, circulate to, make follow-up calls often, even weekly. often an commencing can look and disappear in in basic terms some days. Few districts will word or care which you graduated precise of your type (sorry, yet there it relatively is). Your subbing reviews are your superb probability to audition, so do no longer take care of them as in basic terms a thank you to fill time on a similar time as you're waiting-- take care of on a daily basis as a sub as though it relatively is a job interview. Do your very superb, and sell it. Meet the critical. Do this variety of competent activity that the academics you sub for submit to in techniques your call.

No - there is a much higher demand for principals. If you can get licensed in Massachusetts, you can probably find a job.

Yes, it requires a lot more efforts and responsibilities than being a teacher.

just make sure you don't apply to schools that worry more on how the public perceives looks verses how well they care for the children....you will have no problem.
