I was a soldier in the United States Army who served in Iraq in 2003. The media, in my opinion is only biased and only shows the negative aspects of the US involvement in Iraq. I, on the other hand, have a totally different view than that presented by the media. The media never showed how we helped the civilians restore electricity and improve quality of life for the civilians. The people of the Republic of Iraq have been repressed for as long as they can remember, and that can't be changed overnight. I personally met quite a few very outstanding persons in the country, who told many stories of how their families were split apart and how they've never heard of family members because the government would not allow them to speak. We found mass grave sites where innocent civilians were murderred and burried, just because Saddams people did not like them. Now, is it a success....that's hard to say, because it's far from over, however at this point, should the US just withdraw our troops, the country would have the possiblity to fall further than it was before. Now I understand about the losing of US lives, however, the lives we have lost, are only a small number compared to the number of innocent civilians that were killed there daily in the past. No one, more than I wish that no deaths came from this war, as I've known several people who perished there, but in the big picture, they did die for a just cause.

Don't believe all that you read in those books, because the Iraq action is ongoing. How can anyone tell the real facts yet? And beware of who is writing those books. Many are minor figures, not in a position to know the facts and looking for a quick buck.
Properly researched and footnoted histories of WWII were still being copyrighted at least 50 years after the end of the war, and many written in foreign languages were still being translated. You have a much more factual picture of what actually was actually going on when you read these.
PROUD of you, Jason Bailey! Many vets have said the same thing.

It hasn't been written yet. It is too early to tell the outcome of this whole thing and to write something as such is only a prediction. Book writers are too afraid to predict success--what if they are wrong--instead they will go with what they know now, it is pretty bad. It is much easier for people to see the bad and ugly and go on and on about the negative things happening at this time. I agree, it is real bad, however, I have hope and my hope tells me that one day things will be better for that country. When is a matter of the unknown. It may be 50 years from now. Nobody can predict the future.

They have clearly run out of a game plan and are running on wishful thinking. Former Secretary Madeline Albright put it right when she said "They have made things worse". And thats clear - they have unwittingly acheived for Iran by putting the majority Shi-ites in power ,what Iran could not acheive thru a long and protracted war against Iraq.
So by this action they clearly put their selfish hidden agenda above the political realities of the region. Which as they will discover was a huge mistake. The very large demonstration in Iraq supporting the Iranian backed Hezbollah is clear proof of what I say.
All of the soldiers and all of the kings men, will not put Iraq together again! They will wish that Sadaam was back to get things under control. While he was no paragon of virtue,at least he clearly understood the balance of regional influence. This is not a battle of guns - but a battle of minds.
Its time to send "Wild Bill" Bush and his side kick "Yo" Blair back to the ranch.

whether Democracy suceeds or fails in Iraq will be known only after 10-15 years like we know about Japan or Germany or how the communists failed .
Look we are talking a brutal which was in War or sanctions since 1980 to date except 1988-90
Rome was bulit in a day.
whether USA have suceeded in Iraq or not will be known after 10 years not today.

It is, and there are.......but the very fact that you say there is 312 books on Iraq, I won't bother telling you those books, because it is quite obvious you don't want to hear the stories of those that have been there....only the Lemmings that write from here....and maybe,. MAYBE visited there for an hour or two

That book hasn't come out yet but it will. We'll all be dead. It will be written by future historians and yes, they will say that Iraq was a success. God Bless America they will all say.
If you can believe that.

Well, I don't see how they can write a book on a subject that has not ended and make this prediction. If they said Vietnam was a failure, I would agree. But, how can they predict the future when so many of them can't even get our history right?

It's all screwed up. I think more than a hundred civilians per day got killed there last month, in the civil war they're having. The most powerful guy in the country right now -- Muqtada al-Sadr -- may be worse than Saddam.
