If you go back to school to get the credits needed to be a principal...do you have to have experience as a teacher to land a job?
I have 4 years teaching experience however
I believe PA. requires 5 years of teaching experiencewithin PA before allowing certification as a principal. Is that true?

Also do other states require this?

I am currently an assistant principal, and while I did have to have classroom experience, I didn't need to be five years. (Although I had that much). Each school district is different, and administration certification varies from state to state.

In California, I've known of many principals without five years of teaching experience. Also, here you can currently take a test to qualify for an administrative credential, so no additional coursework is necessary.

Depends entirely on the state. In MA, you have to take a test and complete a supervised internship. No additional degree (beyond the Master's required for teaching) is required.
