well, superman should be the best there ever was, since he can do practically everything. x ray vision, microscopic vision, macroscopic vision, heat vision, polar breath, superhuman speed, flight, superhuman strength..... depending on the era of comics you might have read growing up, he even had telekinetic abilities.
this was not the orginial plan. when he was originally created there was no plan for flight, he could just jump great distances. there were also several types of kryptonite. i think it was 9 types, and they all affected him differently. but, things changed overtime and he was modified by the people that wrote his tales over the years.
but, superman started the craze, and was originally meant to be an "everyman" character. he fought corruption on every level, and thats what made him great, an inborn need to do what he felt what was right, and in that era it was much easier to draw a line, between the two, things were presented in black and white, not at all like things today.
but since the stories back then were very simple, people got bored with it, and the character changed overtime, sometimes for the good, sometimes not. but, overall, even if someone doesnt agree that he's the best superhero, he was the first to get a serial comic all his own, and he spawned decades of great ideas and memorable stories and characters. all thanx to 2 young jewish writers that nobody thought would have any good ideas. lol. the american dream, right there.
every superhero owes something to him. he paved the way for it all.

Superman is the first superhero.
He is everything we want as human beings great strength, courage, wisdom, he comes from an advanced race, yet he feels our humanity stronger then any of us. He vows to never kill even for revenge (when he thought someone murdered his wife).
He did want to cheapen her memory. With all his powers he tries not to hurt the villains. He even inspired a major league villian to turn good and become a hero.
In the comics they say that even if he had no powers he would do what he could to help others. I mean he is an investigative reporter. (and no they even had a mini series about him having a bet with Lois to investigate a gang without his powers and he won a pulitzer or something).
How many other heroes would still be helping people?
Batman would never be doing what he does if his parents had survived, he would be some rich kid. Spiderman would just be an ordinary superscience geek (he might be the closest especially since he always heard from his uncle that with great power comes great responsibility). The fantastic four would be all about making money on their rocket. Though I don't truly believe that these heroes I love are that selfish, Superman is supposed to be the opitomy of an ideal. To be better then what your past had handed you. To rise up over tragedy. To triumph and shine. To show the world what it could achieve.
And lastly in Wizard guide to comics they named the 100 most important people in comics. He was the only character in the list. The reasoning they gave was that during the Death of Superman comic people all over the world mourned his death and truly became upset and sent millions and millions of letters in to DC comics.

Superman is the greatest hero in all of comics because he was the first super, super hero. I say again, he is the first.
Superman is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Superman was the creation of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who were boys themselves when they created this phenomenal character. It took boys to know what all little boys wanted in a hero. Someone who stood for truth, justice and the American way.
Superman has fought or teamed up with every character in the DC Universe. Supes was so popular that he fought Muhammed Ali and Spider-man. He has teamed up with the Silver Surfer and the Fantastic Four.
Every household, village, county, community, knows the name of Superman.
Five major movies has been done about him, books has been written about him, television shows has been made about him, he has appeared or starred in numerous cartoons.
Even his death was short -lived because he is simply super.
I am a huge fan of the Batman, but when I think about it, there is no other comicbook hero like old Supes.

He isnt Alucard is, while hes a vampire, he still a hero and he is also bullet proof, only cause he can be shot to pieces and pull him self back together no matter what even if his head was cut off or taken away,, his body parts will always go to where he wants them to go. HE IS UTERALLLY IMMUNE TO SUNLIGHT, it doesnt even hurt him a little, he just dislikes it. So far garlic and holy water does little to nothing. He has superhuman strength, meaning he can rip humans to shreds as if they were wet tissue paper. He has superhuman senses and can fly, he can turn into mist and or bats, he has telekenisis, mind reading and smalll mind control powers, he has a few restrictions though, which are called his states the lower the number the more powerful he is such as 2, which he can unlock by himself if needed with the cromwell thing, level 1 or full release of his power must be agreeded by a member of the hellsing family, in which he becomes unkillable. He has two bigass guns, the Casul and the Jackel, the Casul can be barely used by a normal man and can shoot off an arm with ease. The Jackel cannot be used by man, like Walter says its too much gun for a mortal, it will obliterate normal humans, and is specfically made for Paladin Alexander, which is a regeneratior, a human that can regenerate his body parts with speed. DId i forger that Silver also does nothing other than cause some pain? Also hes got superspeed. His names an anagram try to guess what it its. Alucard.

Superman being considered the best hero ever is a matter of opinion. But generally however alot of people consider him to be both in the real world and the DC universe for the following reasons: 1.) He is the first actual superhero that laid the blueprint for how other superheros should be. 2.) He is physically the most powerful superhero in the DC universe and thirdly His characteristics as far as nobility, courage and commitment to the well being of any life regardless of origin are second to none. I would say his strong moral character puts him up there as being the best superhero. He just has that majestic presence about him.

Because he is a hero that is the most human-like to us even though he has super-human abilities. He also uses those powers for the good of humankind. That makes us feel more comfortable. Sort of like a godman on earth to make sure things are going to turn out just fine.

Superman is lame, so unrealistic, so stupid looking, so boring, like godmode in a video game.
I like either master cheif if he is eligible (more realistic), or Kyle Katarn.
But if you want a super power hero, I'll just say spiderman. He's cooler, good movies, and fun looking powers.
