There are file recover programs that work in XP but you must buy them. Try going to Target, or Walmart and look for programs the specialize in file recovery. I would be glad to guide you through the recovery but XP has no such program built in. Also, and most important, stop using your computer right now because the more you use it the greater your chance that you will completely code over your chariest pictures and will never get them back. Once you get your pictures back then back them up on a CD so this never happens again.

Edit update: Follow grandpaws advice as I forgot about system restore and it has worked for me everytime.

Try doing a system Restore on your computer. You can restore your computer to a point in time to before you lost it and it will be there. If you don't feel comfortable doing this contact customer service by the manufacturer and they can tell you how to retreive what you have lost. Doing a system Restore is a sure way of retreiving your item.

if you deleted them from the memory card, you should be able to recover the images.
for the hard drive files, it may depend on the way it was formatted (FAT vs NTFS)
there are programs to recover files in FAT drives, i do not know about NTFS.

For the memory card, there are programs like

good luck
