You likely have a clogged ink head for the black ink cartridge or the black print head. Try going to "Deep Cleaning" in Print --> Properties --> Maintenance and if it doesnt work, take it to your electronics store to get the print head checked out.
However be warned that repair could easily cost $100+ and if your printer is only $60 bucks, you are better off getting a new one.

take the cartridge out and gently rub a little alcohol on the inside of the printer where the cartridge goes. where you see the metal strip that the ink goes through. Wipe the ink cartridge off to but do not use a cloth that will leave fuzzies. A micro cloth is good or something without a lot of lint. Run the printhead cleaner program. You may have to do that several times.

Soak the black cartridge in some warm water for 5 minutes then try again. It sounds like the ink is dried up.

Did you take the piece of tape off that covers the ink jets on the black cartridge?

Take the cartridge and clean it with paint thinner. Probably has a clog in where the ink comes out.
If that doesn't work, try re-aligning the cartridge. If worst comes to worst, get another cartridge. (probably defective)

It might be a clogged jet. Most printer drivers have a clean function. You could try that. It that doesn't work you could try cleaning both the bottom of the cartridge and the place where it sits with alcohol.

Remove the cartridge and inspect it. If you have not removed the tape then remove it . Check the nozzle for any obstructions by wiping the same with a damp cloth. Nothing works change the cartridge.

Try cleaning the print head using a weak solution of ammonia. Whereas colours are dye based, and soluble in water, black is pigment based and you need ammonia to dissolve it.

Are you sure the cartridge is in all the way and that you removed the safety seal? Is there anything blocking the orange shiny stuff?
