I am going in to have my 1st ultrasound next week to find out if I am having a girl or a boy. I am worried that the baby will be positioned to where the sex cant be deternined (I will be 20 weeks along). Did you have this problem or did you find out the sex right away?

Both of my boys were spread eagle when I had my ultrasounds. :)

If your baby isn't in the correct position, I know it'll be tough to wait, but look at it this way...the technician isn't looking to find the sex...they're looking at the heart, brain, spine, as well as a host of other things, to make sure you have a healthy baby. Just pray that you do!

I have 3 children. We did not find out the gender for my first. Though, the tech was able to tell. That was at 16 wks. My second was also at 16 wk u/s---and he was clearly a boy. And my third was at 20 wks, clearly a boy. I was told the further along, the more accurate they are. But, I just had two friends in the past 2 yrs where they could not get a good view---both had girls. So, I guess it happens. Drink some orange juice or something before you go. Maybe the baby will be a little more active. Also, you will probably get another chance later on at an ultrasound. Sometimes they will do one toward the end to check on things, positioning, fluids...etc. In my 3 pregnancies, I have had at least 3 u/s a pregnancy. Good Luck!!

I just had a similar issue... I actually went for my amnio and the baby was positioned in a bad spot for the procedure.... not allowing the tech to get a good look. The doctor had me drink a cup of water (to fill my bladder), and had me lie down on my back for about half an hour. When we rechecked, my uterus (and baby) had moved to another side, and was in a position to tell the sex. You can ask them to do the same for you. If you're having an amnio done, you'll get to know the sex when the results come back (even if they can't tell with the ultrasound). Tech's have been known to make errors in telling the sex of the baby. With the amnio, there's no mistake it.

I just had my 20 week ultrasound done two days ago. The first thing they told me was the sex. My little girl was spread eagle with her legs up near her head..she is obviously not shy....Don't worry I am sure you will be fine and you will be able to determine the sex.. if not u can always schedule another ultrasound to try again! Congratulations on your baby!

My baby was positioned awkward, but the 20 week ultrasound was a long one for me, so she moved around quite a bit. They were able to say she was a girl even though she was a bit "shy" in that area. They can usually maneuver the wand a bit to get a peek at the sex.

Both of my boys were very obvious. With my first a doctor walking by the room made a comment about how clear it was to see what I was having. With my second, I looked at the ultrasound tech and said...that looks like another boy...it was. I am hoping this last baby will be a girl, and will show us!

Congratulations! The sonographers are usually very skilled at handling many situations, including "shy" positions. Just follow the directions about fluid intake, and RELAX! It will be wonderful for you, you will get to see your baby. The people are usually quite able to determine the sex of the baby in all sorts of positions. Anyway, this is also around the time in your pregnancy that you will begin to feel the slightest movements of your son or daughter within you, sometimes it feels like tiny butterflies' wings inside your tummy, very faint at first. Such an exciting time for you, sit back and enjoy it!

When I went for my ultrasound, the baby was hiding her gender for the first 20 minutes or so of the exam, and then at the last minute, she moved and we saw that she was a girl. A lot of times the pressure of the transducer on your belly will get the baby to move a little bit. Good luck and congratulations!! :)

I had an amnio test at 16 weeks so I knew for sure. The ultrasound is not 100% determing the sex. I knew someone who was told they were having a boy and they wound up bringing home a baby girl......

GOod Luck :-)

This is gonna sound crazy and its hard to believe people on the net but my first ultrasound we could not see anything so the obgyn told me 1hour before i go back to get on my hands and knees and rock my belly back and forth side to side and front to back for about 15 min. at a time take a break and do it again i did it for 2 15 min sessions and when i got there the baby (GIRL) was wide awake and moving around so we got a few really good shots of her so it worked plus its good exercise on you and the baby
