Fob it off on some mark or try to trade it in on a Toyota?
You "bought somebody's troubles." I've owned a couple of lemons, too. I hope you didn't pay much for the heap.

Given the lack of any details whatsoever, you really don't have a clue how many possible answers that question can have, do you? I have had cars with a lot more milage than your Cougar that ran just fine - there's a good possibility that it has a very minor concern. Out of gas? Battery down? Inertia switch tripped? Fuel Pump or associated circuitry? And literally dozens of other concerns.........I wish you the best, and don't give up on it just because it has over a 100K on it.

Did you buy the car from a dealer or a private party?
If you bought from a private party, it was an "as -is" sale.
If you bought from a dealer, was there a warranty?
If so, contact the dealer for warranty repairs.
If it was an "as-is" sale, either from a dealer or private party, you are going to have to pay for any needed repairs.

What is wrong with it? Who owned it? Did they drive it to the ground? Sounds to me they did a quick fix to sell it.
Hopefully you can get it going again.
