I too had a problem with mice in my garage. I have to keep the mouse traps set summer and winter. A week might go by with no visitors then I'll catch two or three in one day. You have to keep after them constantly or they will make nests in the garage. If you catch the adults, the babies die in the nest and STINK to high heaven
I have had some luck with moth balls keeping them out but they evaporate in a wide open garage and you have to replace them frequently. Before I learned to be vigilant at this, some mice got into one of my cars and chewed the wires up to the dome light. I could live without a dome light BUT, it was on the same circuit as the stop lights and it kept blowing fuses so l had to take the headliner completely out and replace the wires. In the meantime they built a nest in my other car and the babies died in there and it stunk so bad it gagged me when I opened the door. Another fine mess.
Show no mercy when it comes to mice, they might chew the wire harness on your car and disable it. Replacing it can be a $500 job on some newer cars.
Put moth balls in corners and under places where they might run back and forth. Peanut butter seems to work better in traps than cheese. It stays soft much longer so they can smell it. I suggest you keep three or four traps out at all times. And I know the moth balls bother most people but they bother mice even more than it does us. Moth balls are cheaper then a new wire harness.
They might even chew the wires in the garage and start a fire.

HOLY MOLEY, YOU GOT SOME REALLY DANGEROUS FUR BALLS THERE!
#1 take away their matches. Mice are not smart enough to be trusted with matches. You didn't mention how badly the garage was burned in the explosion.
#2 take away their weight lifting set. If they can throw a fifty pound bag at you they are definitely getting out of hand. Time to nip that in the bud.
#3 you might try a little "winterizing" on them damned rodents.
Wash a nice little ceramic or china dish so it is sparkling clean. We can't have mice feeding out of dirty dishes and put some antifreeze in there.
THAT'LL KILL THE LITTLE BASTARDS!
Be sure to put that dish where the dog or cat can' t get at it or they will croak too.
Oh, make sure it is the old style green stuff. That new, orange antifreeze is safe to drink, but it tastes like tiger piss , it won't work.
Good luck. Some rodents chewed wires in the attic of a friend and started a fire on Christmas.
NO RESPECT!!!!

My best advice would be....if possible.. get a cat!
I live in the country, so I have a problem with mice and field rats. I got a tom-cat and I've not had that big a problem with rats since. It's the best rat-control I've had so far.
Just don't use De-Con or any other rat poison, because it will kill the cat too if it gets a hold of a mouse that has eaten it.

I've tried every conceivable way to get rid of those little buggers too! The best thing I've found that works is Fly-paper, or rat-paper if you can find it. No need for baiting a trap, and not to worry cause they ate poison and died in the attic to make your whole house smell. The sticky paper can be placed on the counter top after hours, in the morning, they can be put out with the garbage.

You caught all the mice. Now you need a bigger trap for the gorillas.
