Actually every British players will get all the attention from the media because England really drought for talented players long time ago.
Andy is just similar to Tim Henman. Both becoming the hope of England. However, I don't think that Andy Murray will be the next no. 1 players in near future.
Beside the domination of Nadal and Federer, Badgatis from Cyprus, Blake from US are both upcoming talented star in tennis court. Andy Murray still need more improvement to climb up.
It's really not a big deal for Federer lose a game finally. He's not saint. One lost is not a really disaster for him. Whenever they get a match in future, I am 100% sure Federer will give him a harsh stroke.

Maybe the media can get a little carried away from time to time, but when you consider how few losses Federer has suffered in the past two years, Murray's win was bound to be big news.
The young Scot is having quite a banner year. He's won a title, he's having a very consistent summer, he's headed for the top twenty, he's beaten a pretty impressive collection of players including Hewitt, Roddick twice and now Federer, and he looks set to finish the year higher ranked than any youngster not named Nadal. It's easy to see why the tennis community is taking serious interest in the guy.

G'day Hamido,
Thanks for your question,
Andy Murray is the latest in great British tennis hopes. He is a Scottish tennis player, notable for his frequent outbursts of passion and natural talent. He is currently coached by Brad Gilbert.
Almost all of Murray's ATP tour results have come on hard and grass courts, though he has claimed to prefer clay courts, a liking no doubt tied to his training in Barcelona as a junior.
In December 2005, he won the BBC Scottish Sports Personality of the Year Award. Murray is the UK's best ranked player having reached a new career high ranking of 21.
He played well to defeat Roger Federer but there have been great British hopes before (see Tim Henman). He needs to play consistently as Roger Federer has to make number 1.
I have attached some sources for your reference.
Regards

First of all, rakesh_20056 needs to get his facts straight. Federer has now lost five matches this year, not one. You're the idiot. Federer is great, but not unbeatable by any means. He is a player who heavily relies on rhythm and timing, so if you can attack him from the baseline and throw off his rhythm, you can pull off a win. This is why Nadal beats him on a regular basis (6-2 career record against Federer) and why Dominik Hrbaty has beaten him both of the times they have played. Andy Murray has a similar style to Nadal and Hrbaty. He is a relentless baseliner. Federer has trouble with those types of players, that is why Murray beat him. Murray will be a top ten player, but not this year. He needs to gain weight and get rid of his attitude.

He has been getting some publicity for a few years now. Every time the Brits get someone half decent they get all panicky anyway. He is solid off the ground and has a good serve. His footwork is middle of the road . I think he can be in the top ten, but not number one. You have to remember that Federer is far from done and Nadal is about the same age as Murray and is a beast. Gilbert as coach to Murray has done an excellent job.

he didn't JUST become famous after he beat federer. he's been a top player (as in he is doing really, really well) for a while now. but i do think that sooner or later, he will reach the top of the ranks, because he still is really young, and he's got a lot of talent. i can't wait to see what he will be like in a few years.
