How sweet are you!! Like everyone else says, you really can't ensure a close to painless labor. It is a woman's lot of life (darn that Eve!) but just be supportive and know that if she says anything mean or negative to you, she really doesn't mean it. Congratulations and God Bless.

You cant to be honest. Even an epidoral is not full proof for painless. The only way she will have a painless labour is if shes out cold and then she will miss the birth of her child. I had an epidoral with my first labour, and a spinal tap with my second. I still felt nearly all the pain because my body didnt react to the medication properly. My third I was out cold because of an emergency c section I still felt pain it was just after the birth. Pain in child birth is just a fact of life.

An epidural usually helps, but be aware that it doesn't work for everyone. Just make sure she asks for it as SOON as she can. I waited until the pain was unbearable, and then had to wait about 45 minutes for the anesthesiologist to finish up with two patients ahead of me and it was not fun! Good luck and congratulations!

That is so sweet of you to wanna help her through her labor. Short of giving birth for her, all you can do is make sure she is comfortable and be there for her in anyway that she may ask. For me, I just had my hubby sit and talk to me and brush my hair, it helped but the epidoral is what really did the trick. GOOD LUCK!!

I have had three children. I had my son with epidural and it was so nice. I hardly felt anything! The girls I had natural and It was awful. Please if she goes with natural do not do anything to upset her it does make it worse. A calm comfortable environment free of negative distractions.

you cant! labor is really baaaad pain, BUT you can make it alot easier on her afterwards. i ahd a c-section and afterwards i couldnt walk or even pee by myself. my loving husband walked me to the bathroom and had to pull down my pants and underware for me because the pain was too unbarable for me to bend. just to pee it hurt so bad i tore the toilet paper rack off the wall. he had to push me in a wheel chair and everytime he ran over one of those cracks on the sidewalk i screamed in pain. just be there for her and try not to make her get up for things. and simple things like pulling down her underware (if she has a c-section) is appreciated very much. i can go on and on about the pain but you wouldnt have enough time lol

no such thing. best thing to do is to have her get the epidural shot.....but they won't give her the shot until her cervix is about 5cm dialated. before then she's got to breathe through the contractions.
