It is said in India specially, that " Pahle Naukari uska bad Chhokri". I think, it is absolutely justified because without a livelihood what is the guarantee that the groom can take care of himself and his wife? It is required to prove his social capability which is a condition precedent for marriage.

But it need not be a Government job. In india again, government jobs guarantee lot of security as compared to the private jobs and own business where risk factor is there. The government jobs are protected by the Constitution of India in its Articles 309 - 311, and the Courts have to protect the Government servants against arbitral actions by the master.

It is also stupid to insist for a Govt. job because we were slaves of foregn rulers for long and ours has not changed from its feudal back ground.

Straight answer: A job helps to smoothen the bumps the life throws at you. Especially true after a marriage.
Is it necessary? No. Is it advisable? Yes, if you do not have a means of constant source of income - wait till you do but continue to love the person you are with.

Now, about that mother. She is bad news for you from the word get go. She is showing her true colors. She is controlling. Either you talk to this fiance of yours or just drop her. It sounds like if you get into this relationship it is mother's hand in everything anywhere from how to run your household and what to wear for the next party. Wowwowowo..................

I don't blame parents being concerned for their children's future but in this case - it is overbearing. She cannot dictate that in you as a precondition to marriage. That is complete nonsense.

A job is not mandatory for the institution of marriage. However, to have a confidently settled married life, economic freedom is necessary and for that purpose a job could be of better preposition.

I am very old fashioned in this. I firmly believe a man has no business getting married until he can support a family.

I am very modern in this. A woman who is totally financially dependent on a man is in trouble from the start.

marriage is god's first institution which was established on the earth. whatever we do (job, commitment to stay together, sacrifice ) it is to support the institution(marriage). Husband must be bread winner of the family(for wife it is optional). hope i have answered your question.
