It doesn't.

With the partial exception that some states restrict a person's participation in party primaries to those registered as a member of that party. That's based on the right of the party to limit its primary choice to its own member.

In some states you actually have to be a member of the party in order to vote in that party's primary, meaning that in some states independents can't vote in primaries.

Or do you mean like how Democrats get dead people to vote, unregistered people to vote and have people vote multiple times, thereby watering down the protected value of your vote, which obviously affects (and effectively takes away) your right to vote.

I vote strictly on party lines, However if there was a REALLY good candidate from the other side I might consider voting for him/her.

It DOES in some places due to primaries or local elections.

For instance, a family member is Republican, but in a rural area of my state, a local office was being competed for by Democrats, and for some reason, because it was not a presidential election, she was unable to vote. This deserves some research.

It doesn't other than as a Republican I vote once & I am a legal
citizen of US. Oh & no one comes by my old folks home & picks me up to vote for me. Our county caught Democrats in 3 homes loading up senile old people to vote for them.

Look out for those guys. If you register as an independent or unaffiliated, dependent on the state's language, you can not vote in the primaries.
