No need to paint a base coat, just paint directly onto the bone. You can use ink, acrylic paint or oil paint - your choice. You can boil it first if it makes you feel better - it's probably a good idea from the smelly germ standpoint...

Well from what I know, The skull needs to be cleaned and that is done by boiling it in hot water for several hours then allowing it to dry for several days and basically it is ready for your artwork. Good Luck!!!!

clean it up. Any paint ought to stick to it OK.
