still get cervical cancer? Or do they take the cervic's out? My best friend had a hysty in 97, she was just curious??

A hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus which includes the cervix. The Cervix is the opening of the uterus into the vagina.
So your friend can't get cervical cancer because she doesn't have a cervix.

the docs take out the uterus that includes the cervix because the cervix is part of the uterus. but if there are ovaries still in the body then the ovaries can develop cancer. also can spread to the breast - it has to do with the female hormones. there is not guarantee that cancer will appear. Just because someone has cervical cancer doesn't mean they will have cancer elsewhere.

Depending on the extent of the surgery, the cervix is usually left intact and YES - you still would need PAP tests and annual exams.
