Since you study in Oregon, how about, "The Art and Crafts of the Modoc Indians and the Cultural changes they have endured since the 'Modoc War'. " That was the second to last Indian war this country had.

I have become interested in consumer culture and how bad it is for kids. It would be interesting to create a media literacy project or a media free zone as an art exhibit. Don't know exactly how that would work but your thesis could be something like. Kids design a utopia without the notion of branding.
Or think about how art and immigration issues could find some common ground for the people who are still thinking about the issue. How could sharing Korean or Hispanic art create ties for recent immigrants with their new surroundings?

You hit the jack pot here!
Immigration is a serious problem in America. Right?
Can the art and influences of immigrants effect our country?
WIDE OPEN HERE~ Mexican- Diago Rivera (murals of working class people) Jewish- WW2 immigrants and the effect of the art/entertainment on American people. India~ Culture, Education, Diversity. China- rich history in art and culture and how its applied to practical life in modern world.
I feel strongly about the Mexican influence and the community project of the importance in a our culture needed bi-lingual education. Not for them as immigrant, for us. We are stubborn to accept that we are in a world "think tank". Its a very hot topic and very misunderstood. Tolerance, Knowlege and Action will carry you as you find the thing that will change your life.
My highschool senior project was on human mortality and the acts of morality we do after a person is dead.
Good luck!

How about doing a documentary and thesis on 'What is Art?' I'm sure different people have different takes or perspectives. You could use a video camera and interview people (friends, people on the street or in museums, , etc...) on the topic. You can edit it together using two VCRs.
