I've owned Nike, Reebok, Puma, New Balance, Adidas..and countless others. In my opinion, Adidas and New Balance are the best.

Unfortunately, Nike doesn't seem to make as comfortable shoes as they used to. I keep trying them on at the NIke training runs, but I can't find a comfortable pair.
Most of the time, I wear New Balance and it sounds like that may be a good choice for you too, because they over a variety of widths.
You may want to do some research. All the major running magazines (Runner's World, Running Times, etc.,) have reports on running shoes. If you don't want to buy the magazine, you can go to: http://www.runnersworld.com and put in a search for shoe reviews. There are shoes for different types of runners: overpronators, under pronators, heavy runners, high mileage, and neutral. It really has become quite a science. It is a good idea to go to a running specialty store to try on shoes. If you live in Southern California, Snail's Pace is the one I go to because every one working there is also a runner.
When buying shoes, it is also important to understand that your running shoe size will be larger than your dress shoes and that some running shoes tend to run small so you can't assume that the size you think you wear is correct.

New balance 767. i run about 60 miles a week on them and they last a long time and are very comfortable. Another shoe i would recommend would be the saucony grid trigon 4 rides, another great shoe that will feel great on your feet

Nike is awful, I would dump the shox before you hurt yourself.
New Balance is very good, so is Asics.
check out this website, and go to 'shoe dog'. It will ask you some questions about your running style, arch, training program, etc. and recommend shoes that meet your needs.

Nike Shox can get really uncomfortable. But Nike has a new shoe called Nike Reax out and I can run forever in them. They're great.

yeah i just got out of the shox phase too. they're not very good are they...haha. i got mizuno and i love them. huge difference. i can actually feel wind on my toes. thats how nicely formed the mesh is. but i also like brooks, asics, adidas, and new balance. i'm done with nike for a while..if you have a specialty shoe store. go there. they'll find the right shoe for you!
