I am republican I love the constitution. I love freedom. However, I understand that freedom is not free and it is not absolute. That is why I support the Presidents efforts to use whatever means needed to find and fight the terrorists we are at war with. The Democrats see this as a legal issue but we are at war with terrorists all over the world and the Constitution made the President the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and as such he should use every resourse at his disposal to help us to win the war.
I have nothing to hide therefore I have no problem with having anyone listen to my phone calls, reading my emails, etc. What I do have a problem with is that the same people who are criticizing the President for these things are the same people who will ask why we did nothing to prevent the next terrorist attack! We cannot have it both ways!

I think if you study history, you'll find more "to the letter" interpretation of the constitution attributed to the Republicans, and more interpreted "this is what it should mean" interpretation of the Constitution attribute to the Democratic party.
Now, you conclude which is the proper direction.
And actually the distinction needs to be Conservative and Liberal. Not all Republicans are really Conservative, and not all Democrats are Liberal. But that's the geater distinction.
I'm conservative by nature, and would interpret the Constitution fairly literally.

Well, thats not really true, but if it were, at least they can make a decision one way or the other. We may not always like the decisions they make, but at least you respect them for choosing liking it 100% or hating it 100%.
Unlike the Democrats, who absolutely are IN LOOOVVVEEEE with the 1st Amendment and will not tolerate anyone even thinking about restricting it even slightly, but when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, they're all for putting every restriction they can think of to stifle it. The reason for the rampant hypocrisy?
They want to make you think that they support the Constitution, but they really only support the parts of it that suit their communist/socialist agenda. I'd rather go with the side that goes 100% one way or another rather than the flip flop/reversal thing.
(John Kerry was only the tip of the iceberg)
And they wonder why they lose elections! The average American, who the Dems deem too stupid, come out in droves to vote, and they see through the lies spun by the Dems.
They think if you aren't a tree hugging, protesting, pot smoking, activist, then you aren't worthy of their attention. They don't like Middle America. The folks that have no time to protest and march because they have jobs and families to take care of.
They don't speak out all the time. They are the silent majority, and they mostly vote conservative. Its great that the Dems love the poor, but the poor are lazy..and they don't vote. And the young (18-26) are usually solidly Dem, but alas, they're too high or too drunk or just plain forget to vote. Too bad. Oh well, better luck next time. HAHAHAHAHA

I am a Republican and I very much like the Constitution. I wish more people actually read it before they start talking about what's in it.

Get your fact straight. Republications are not against the constitution, they never have been.
What we are against is those liberals who want to change our constitution to fit their whims.
Our Constitution isn't perfect but it is the best in the world save none.

Republican love the Constitution unlike liberals that attempt to legislate and dominate through judicial activism thus overriding the Constitution.
The Liberal Agenda
•attack American traditions, specifically Christian traditions and the traditional American family
•engage in "get-even" policies that support discrimination when it benefits historically disadvantaged groups
•punish and/or discourage achievement through taxation and fiscal policies
•use the rulings of the Judicial branch of the government as de facto law, irrevocable by anything short of Constitutional amendment or a future court ruling, thus bypassing the legislative process. Roe V. Wade is the most frequently cited example of "judicial activism". (48 million dead and counting)
•weaken the military strength and morale of the country by vilifying the practice of armed combat and hesitating to use force when it appears necessary
•use regulatory bodies over private enterprise to accomplish social goals and restrict competition (government, education, labor and health care)
•establish secular and progressive social policy, including support for gay marriage, abortion, liberal drug policy, euthanasia and prostitution legalization.
•implement a foreign policy supporting the selected protection of human rights and multiculturalism through activism, social intervention and violence (social anarchism)

They don't?
I am republican , and I back up the constitution 200%.
I guess its just how you , read it.
ex: separation of church and state. Too me it means that religion does not run the government, not that religion should be taken out of all public places.
I could go on and on, just not enough room here to site all the reasons.

The same reason Democrats don't like it.
Neo-cons want to squelch free speech and most of the Bill of Rights.
Liberals want to take away gun rights and squelch free speech (this PC crap) and kill the unborn.
I'm a Constitutionalist...and a conservative.
It doesn't matter what "major" party is in office.
