Use desktops for home use. There are some reasons to saying this. normally, home use computers would also be used for gaming and multimedia. in 2-3 years any system would become a bit outdated. Upgradation is easy and cheap in the case of desktops as compared to laptops. And there is limitation to the extent that you can update your laptop. So, it is better to get a desktop for such purposes, unless you have space constraints at home(which i dont think most people will have). Laptops are better only for work computers, which you need to carry from one place to another. Dell, HP, IBM would be good choices for both. If you plan to buy laptop you may also consider Acer Ferrari series(looks sexy).

Desktop for home use, laptops for people on the go. Hp pavilion is a great computer, dell was reliable as a laptop until they had a battery call back because they started blowing up

1) Desktops are cheaper to buy, maintain, upgrade or repair than laptops.

2) If you absolutely need to move it around, laptops win, but see #1.

We have a dozen or so computers in the house, and we have more Gateways than any other brand, although we have several brands. We have an HP laptop that has run continuously for four years, I would not buy any other kind.

I beleive the desk top is the best solution for home use. I suggest a HP compaq Presario for your first home computer. I have found that HP customer service is second to none. HP also has a real time live chat service with tech support technitions that can help you any time day or night, 24/7. Also microsoft offers a good tech service also and they offer free downloads from there Download Center on the web. You can microsoft programs and software from this sight free of charge.

A desktop for home use. Brands? All brands suck because you never know the quality of parts that go into them (i.e. hard drive, RAM ect...). Go to a local computer shop and have them build you one. It's usually around the same price and it's going to be a lot better quality.
