Tell him the truth in a nice sort of way. Like :
1.You are excited about going with your friends and that they would be disappointed if you ditched them.
2. You like another boy. This works especially well if you actually have a date with the other boy.
3. You aren't going to the dance because you have plans with your family/friends.
You could also offer to have one dance with him.
A direct reply in a kind way is usually best.
In example...." I'm sorry I've been planning on going with my best Friend and we are both really excited about it. " If he is still persistent just tell him that you aren't interested in him that way. Everybody has been there and as long as you aren't mean about it he will understand.
