When I turn on my dell latitude cpi there is something that says,
"While initializing device IOS"
Error: A I/O subsystem drive failed to load.
Either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt or the system is on low memory.
After this message the laptop has a flashing hyphen and just stops there forever. If you have any Idea please tell me!

Simply use your question as a search subject and try doing an internet search and/or just search Yahoo answers. You might be surprised to find the answer that you've been looking for -at least in the meantime while you are waiting for the right answer (or perhaps just a confirmation to the answer you've found) here...

If you are unable to boot the computer at all, you have a couple options available. You can try the disk that came with the laptop, the restore disk, and see if you cant repair the problem with the disk. This is your first option. If it gives you the same error message after repairs, try one of the following: format the hard drive and reinstall windows, or upgrade the ram on your system. If you are running less than 512 megs of ram to begin with, I suggest upgrading first, to see if you can avoid loosing all of your data.

Im not exactly sure about that error, but over 4 million Dell laptops have been recalled because the battery is over heating. It could be fine one day, then the next day your computer is blow up. That would be bad!! lol. So go to Best Buy or call Dell support.

its a problem with your hard drive and memory...
if you've been carrying your computer a round a lot and haven't been careful putting it down you could have knocked the memory loose from its seat... or the memory simply could have burnt out (not so uncommon with dells)
the harddrive in a lap top is also a little delicate so and sudden bangs or harsh treatment could have caused the disks that make up the hard drive to get stuck to each other...

contact customer service... wait 2 hours on hold and then tell them the issue they should send the parts or a service tech to your place to resolve the issue...

I don't have any great answers but you want try taking out the battery so it will lose the charge for a few minutes.. also if you have any additonal devices unplug them before restarting don't have power hooked up when you take out battery ..it worked a couple times when i had an old lap top

otherwise i'd go with james tran answer

Sounds like a hardware issue, but try reformatting first then try swapping in a new hard drive and see if you still get that error.

get your Dell Recovery CD's and perform a system recovery. If you are unsure on how to do this, please call Dell technical support. I use them all the time when i service clients who have Dell laptops which have died.. they can 'hold your hand' and guide you to fix that laptop.

Run Norton WIN DOCTOR...

Also check MSCONFIG for something you may have recently un-installed or deleted...

Reinstall windows if neither of those work.
