yes, i've heard of ppl saying it happened; however, the only place it gets "lost" in are to the sides of your cervix, deep up your vagina. the vagina only has one entrance and exit... so the tampon won't go far.
if you can't find the string, then you manually have to take it out with your fingers...gross, i know :-)

Lost? No. Misplaced for a brief second while you contemplate "did I loose it,,,If So, where did it go and how in the world do I get it back.
Think about how long the applicator for the tampon is. That's the depth it will stay at. If for some reason, the outer sting has gotten inserted into the vagina, or broken off, then you will have to retrieve it. It's not that hard. I have to do it a few times over 25 years. Just lay back, and insert your fingers (scrubbed and nails clipped)into the vagina and slowly increase your depth. You will feel the string, or the tampon itself. Then remove it and toss it. If it's from the string breaking, change makers.
Please don't just leave it there. Infections. Pain, all kinds of things. If you don't feel that you can remove it. Go to a clinic and a nurse can remove it for you.

It is impossible for a tampon to be lost inside your body. The only entry at the other end of your vaginal opening is into the uterus (an organ about the size of your balled-up fist) and the passage into that is about half the diameter of a pencil.
The only way you could "lose" a tampon is if it fell out of your vaginal canal while you were going to the bathroom, but this is exceptionally unlikely, especially if you've never had a baby, and even then unlikely if you perform your Kegel exercises.
If this is the only thing holding you back from using tampons, don't even give it a second thought!

It is absolutely not possible for a tampon to get lost. Don't worry. The only thing that could possibly happen to you is the string could rip off. This is very very rare but i've heard of a person who had it happen to them and they just had to get the doctor remove it. But it doesn't keep me from wearing a tampon.

This is an urban legend. It is possible to forget about a tampon, but not really possible for it to get lost. The vaginal canal is not an endless tube, so a tampon can only be somewhere in between the vulva (the outermost part of your vagina) and your cervix (the area at the bottom of your uterus).

if you lose the string or it breaks off your tampon while it is in you try to get it out, if you cant go to the doc asap, the tampon should natrally come out of you but with the risk of getting toxic shock syndrome it needs to be removed sooner

yes, yes, yes it can it happened to my sister and she had alot of recurring infections and after about a year the doctor did an internal and it had moved to the bottom opening of the cervic, it is unusual but if you did not take it out then it could have floated up and in, if you just can't remember an x-ray could probably clear it up....good luck.melissa

I've heard of women forgetting that they already had one in and putting another in.
