It should be okay as long as it fits you. If it's too big, you'll be pulling it up all night long. & If it's too tight you won't be able to breathe when you try to sit down. Make sure you can sit comfortably when you're trying it on.
Another tip for strapless dresses - you can bring your dress to a Victoria's Secret store & they'll let you try it on with different bras, etc, underneath to see what looks best.

I am a pageant pro, and I usually wear strapless gowns. They are very easy to walk and sit in, that is, if they fit correctly.
Be sure to get the closest size that fits you, and, unless it fits absulotely perfect, have a seamstress take it in to costum fit.
If it still tends to slide a little, buy some butt glue. Ok, ok, unless ur a pageant contestant u probably think I'm nuts!! it stuff used to keep swim suits and gowns wear they belong on stage. I use Firm Grip or BODYglue.. u can buy these at just about any formal store for around $10.00.
Put your dress on, but dont zip it. Roll (or spray, whichever u purchase) the glueacross your chest where the dress will lay. Press the dres firmly for about 30 seconds, thendo the same on your back and zip up!!
Your dress wont move until u want it to! I did it for prom and the glue even lasted thru dancing and everything!!
Hope I helped!!

Not really, I think it depends on how comfortably you can move in it and how tight it is. I wore a strapless dress (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2901290?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=As+U+Wish+in+All+Categories&origin=searchresults) for my graduation and I had no problems with it. The ceremony lasted an hour or two and there was a lot of walking for awards and to recieve my certificate. Since my wasn't really a gown Im not sure if that would affect anything, Sorry. Hope I helped

I have worn a couple of different strapless dresses. Assuming you have enough boob to hold them up (and I barely pass) then you won't have to hitch them up all the time. You can get a strapless bra if you want. I haven't. Double sided tape can be a good idea.
Have fun

Nothing looks lamer that someone who is constantly grabbing their gown by the top and pulling it up. If it keeps slipping down, it will look like you never wear one. Get the straps and save yourself the pain.

Not if they are tailored correctly. Consider a bustier or corset with hook & eye closures sewn in to that and the dress to attach one to the other. (Worked like a charm in every wedding I've ever been in.) In case of emergency, apply double sided packing tape in strategic places. Good luck!
