China isn't communist anymore, it's a capitalist dictatorship. It's a country that is run like a corporation. The government rules top down; people have no say in the county's direction. China can get away with its current mismanagement because there are almost unlimited resources, both natural resources and manual labor. The people are like expendable parts in a giant machine.
China's potential to dominate the world would be unleashed if the people were given the freedom to think, invent, and create. If the people were free, China would acheive its potential and become the world superpower.
Does the West really want that?
Here we are, wasting time supporting the Falun Gongers and a stupid little island like Taiwan, and trying to orchestrate grass-roots change of Chinese society into a democracy, and I think we're going to end up screwing ourselves if we suceed.
Do we really want a free China? Right now, they're their own worst enemy. Let them hold themselves back.

we support taiwan because if china took taiwan it would gain operational control of all the southwest pacific ocean and the trade routes that flow through it. if china had liberty they wouldnt immediately turn to globabl domination. they would have to compete in global markets and with each other just like everyone else. currently chinese companies seem strong because they are mega companies run by the state and funded by taxes. they have no competition within china, so they can compete with the rest of the world. if people had the freedom to start large companies on their own and compete freely then chinese companies would have to compete with other chinese companies. the reason why the US doesnt condemn china on a daily basis is military and economic. their military is larger than ours, and the US owes them money. they can't cross the pacific and conquer us, and we cannot conquer china.

While politicians worldwide pay lip service to the idea of democracy in China the bottom line is that we live in a capitalist society which always seeks opportunities for investment, profit and cheap labour. China at the moment provides all three.

Good question, by the way, and your supporting points are well thought out.

It has a good start , the Bush Administration has borrowed money from China, against our 13 trillion dollar national debt..this is in addition to the 5.7 trillion dollar surplus left by the Clinton Administration. We are in hock to China. Millions and millions of acres of America's farm lands are owned by Asian Conglomerates.

Ha ha, and everybody bit*ches about the Mexicans. Ironic as hell.
None so blind, nor as limited. But diversion is still the best tactic.
