The Venedes (also called Veneti) were a group/tribe in the Baltic area in the early days of the Roman Empire. They spoke an Indo-European language, and from the small amount recorded, it may have been related to the Italic languages of which Latin is best known. They were contemporary with early Slavic peoples in the same general area. They eventually melted away, assimilated into the other groups.
