I remember Pluto was my favorite planet during my Primary days. What I know, it was/is the smallest among all and there's no sunlight in there coz it's so far, far away and it's very cold.

Pluto is certainly a planet since it meets the criteria established definition of a planet today. There is an argument for starting a new category called "Plutoids" to name the smaller planets and then that would include Ceres in the Kuiper belt, Xena, the nickname of the farthest object from the sun. The spherical form is critical since it means that planet has enough mass to become a sphere on its own gravitational power. The moon is bigger than Pluto but the center of gravity if the binary earth-moon system is below the Earth's surface.

Well, according to the IAU resolution that is going to be voted on soon, just about everything in the solar system that isn't dust or space junk will be considered a planet.

Personally, I think that there are only eight planets, Pluto not being considered a planet. I really don't understand the logic of this new move to make a whole slew of objects new planets.

Currently it is a planet but the classifications as to how a body is considered a planet are currently under review. There is discussion right now of adding things that were once considered only moons or icy objects. The further we look into the Kuiper belt the more we seem to find more objects that are considered planets.Pluto has an eccentric orbit but still meets the current criteria.

A planetoid at least because of its size the same with the next object out that's about the same size. They both have stable orbits around the sun. If they can call Gas Giants planets then a ice ball farther out can be called a planet.

No, I guess now it's just a dog at Disney World.

Pluto apparently recently lost it's place in the solar system. Guess there's no point in hanging onto my old science project now...:)
