If you supervise them and watch them just as you would do in NYC or LA or any city in the US. Keep em together and be sure they don't wander off. People in MX. for the most part love children and would never hurt a child. It's great for US children to see that everyone doesn't live like we do. Even to see some poor people and children. You should be sure to talk about what you saw and debrief the kids so they can learn from it. The more kids travel the better "global" citizens they will become.

I thought clueless wife was against tijuana because of the three hour drive.

Responses so far seem to indicate that those with experience say go during the day and keep a close eye on the little ones. And those that say don't go with children probably have never been there (and would never go there, or have gone only to partake in the vices there).

I thought I'd heard that it had become much more touristee and commercial than before.

Signed, the real 'clueless' husband.

IT depends of the age of your children. I've told to my children many times that if they are lost for a second do not move. I'll return for you, wait and don't cry only I can take you back to home. I won't let you never at any place. Dont move too far from my sight, event when they are bored on a store...

Make some breaks on your shopping rally , they bore really too fast for an adult time ( even on shopping time) . Give some toys to play while you are in shopping time...After a while buy them an ice cream as a gift for good behavor.

HAve a nice day in Mexico it's beautiful. You can lost your children any where in the world, In times square, Sunset Boulevard or Tijuana. That's the worst thing could ever happend to any parents in the world...

Enjoy your day, Have a nice day every day of your children, so they will grow up really fast.

Honestly Leo

Tijuana, is a very dangerous place. The police are corrupt, they will shake you down for no reason what so ever. If you do go, stay on the main streets by the arch and the Edison Hotel. It is the main tourist area, and there is alot of street vender's there. Be vigilant and careful, make sure you have enough money to pay some corrupt cops if you have to. Stay below the radar, also shop during the daytime and get out at night. When all the undesirables come out...If I were you, I would live the kids at home...Good Luck...

Tijuana is a very dangerous place. There are about 300 murders a month in Tijuana. There are also a high rate of kidnappings and body stuffing with small children, and with plenty of corrupt law enforcement, there's no one to help you.
When I was small, I was always told that the devil lives in a place called Tijuana, Mexico.

I went to TJ all my life living in Chula Vista and as long as you are on the main street (Revolution) where all the shops are you are as safe as any city. Keep track of everybody. We usually park our car on the state side and walk over the bridge and make sure we start back well before dark. its about a mile on sidewalks. It depends on how old your children are if they can handle the walk.Things haven't changed much in 35 years except prices, remember strength in numbers, maybe another couple could go with you.

It depends on how old your children are and how well they behave. I wouldn't want to bring small children who tend to wander off there. I also wouldn't want to have to worry. It's a city like any other, but there's a different political system there, and any large city can be dangerous for the unwary. If your children are old enough to enjoy a day shopping and have enough sense to stay close to you, it shouldn't be a problem.
