Both as stated previously. The standard is a 5-speed manual transmission, and there is an optional 6-speed automatic. (This applies to both the 4 cylinder, and 6 cylinder engines)
If you can tolerate a manual, go out and splurge on a Mazdaspeed6 (6-speed Manual), they are going for crazy cheap right now, about 2k more than a regular V6 6. You should be able to get a Speed6 sport for 23k out the door.

I've got a brand new Mazda 6 sedan, it's awesome. I'm not really into cars, but I fell in love with it. Looks hot I reckon! You can get it in either manual or automatic. Mine has both.

Depends on whether it's a manual or an automatic !! As above, the manual is cheaper, lighter on fuel and goes quicker !!
