Ok, i googled houses for rent in San Antonio and that led me to a site called mySA.com on the home page in the upper left hand corner it has a real estate link, from there it takes you to a page that gives you like a 6 question questionaire that asks kind of property (rent or sale), a search bar to look in local classified ads, internet and such, a locate property drop down bar (indicating area, city, county, etc...) a price range bar, bedroom/bathrooms etc... and kind of house you are looking for, single family, condo, duplex, manufactured home, (I think this is along the lines of a mobile home, and ranches.

the complete website is: http://realestate.mysanantonio.com/sales/SearchIndex.asp

Hope this is a good link for you.

Looks like you want to get a house and put money into it and not have it go into someone else's equity account. If you rent you are going to pay for a house, a lot, period.

People are telling you to look here and look there...

What you need to look into is a lease to own, or rent to own.... there is no way you are going to be able to buy in a year by trying to save money while renting a house...

You may live with someone for no rent or something then you can save for a house in a year but without doing that, it is going to be hard to save up for the down payment.

Check this website out:
http://www.rent2buyamerica.com

go to TX and then SA.

I am not sure how much it is to REGISTER or if it costs, but I got to this link---so here's another link that could help:

http://www.rent2buyamerica.com/Homes/Texas/San-Antonio-Area/San-Antonio/tabid/98/city/207/San-Antonio.aspx

Ok... so nevermind really about that... this is what could help you the very most:

http://www.sanantonio.gov/nad/lenddiv/downpayment/contactinfo.asp

I talked with a man named Adolph Torres Housing Loan Coordinator 207-5420

He told me that the first thing he looks at is the credit score. He also works with you to give you a (small small percentage loan for a down payment (up to $12,000 ) and has credit counselors and home lenders that work with him quite often. The home you buy has to be in San Antonio limits (not just Bexar county). The home also has to be 110,000 or below. The lender percentage rate cannot be above 8.75%.

Where you were talking about buying in the NW area, this could be a possibility.

Before wasting your time and money on RENTING anything for any period of time, give this man a call. He seems to be VERY helpful and the city has a LOT of resources. We have a big city here. Use the resources.... There are a lot available to us.

Hope this helps... really I do!

Crazy Ace does have the right idea. Check out mySA.com or go pick up a Sunday newspaper. Also, drive out to Helotes. The houses are nice there and the schools are good if you like the NW side. Finally, since you say you live in SA, go check out the new guide that came out today in the August 20th newspaper called A guide to san Anonio and South Texas. It's in the Express News. and Good luck.
