I just moved to Gainesville from a land locked state and what to go to the beach. I would prefer not to drive more than an hour and a half from Gainesville. I would also like to bring my dog with me as she has never swam in an ocean before.

Try Daytona, I think it's only an hour or hour and a half. Or hit Cedar Key without the dog for a party weekend. For a couple more hours (4) go to St George Island in the panhandle. Beautiful. Jacksonville is also lots of fun, and you can hit St Augustine and take a ghost tour.
