If you're talking about voting in elections, I do. The reason I do is because I educate myself about candidates' stands on different issues that are important to me and then I vote for the candidate who I think will have the best approach to handling those problems or concerns. If I didn't vote, a person could get into office who will make problems worse. I know it's only one vote, but everyone has only one vote...they add up!

What if you used to vote but are seriously thinking of stopping? I understand the whole concept of a democracy and what happens when people stop participating. At the same time I am old enough to have seen decades of politicians who do nothing except scam the people while enriching themselves and the large companies that bribe them.
I cannot honestly think of a single national, state, or local government in my lifetime that has really done anything to benefit the country. Socalled solutions are short term. Tax money is always wasted. Governments grow in size and complexity yet their level of services are always declining. We have never had a coherent foreign policy that didn't eventually result in huge backlashes against the US. Our economy continues to grow but at the expense of the middle class who are continually squeezed from all sides. Our cities are cesspools filled with animals, genetically and culturally, who are someday going to completely break out. Our educational system is one of the most highly funded in the world and also one of the worse. Our health care system is collapsing and there doesn't seem to be any viable solution outside of killing all the trial lawyers. :)
So the long and short of it is that I'm just starting to drop out.

I vote and have voted since 1968 because it is the right thing to do. I give myself the right to complain if I do not like the person that wins. If you don't vote you have no valid reason to be able to do that.

I vote because it is my right to have a say in government
IF i didn't vote I would always wonder if that 1 vote could have made a difference
.I am not sure if they really consider it though

Vote is the only arsenal reserved to a citizen and it must be exercised to support the candidate who will lead the country properly.

~They won't let me out of my cell to go vote. But, in about 18 more years, I'm gonna try to get my voting rights back.

i vote b/c battles were fought for the right to vote, many countries do not allow its citizens to vote and as someone who cares about our fugure, feel that it's important and every vote counts. besides, voting is very easy, you can do it by proxy, in the mail. can't complain if you can't be bothered to vote.

Because it is my civic duty and it is my only voice in how my government is run. If I didn't vote, I would have no right to complain about what was going on.

I always vote, but I know people who don't because they think elections are rigged and their vote won't count anyway.
