Here are two cool homeless people stories.......
I know 4 people who say they are homeless. They stand on highway exit ramps and beg for money. They each make around 200 a day. Give or take.Since they are all friends they rent a motel room, get food, cigarettes, then they party it up with drugs and alcohol.
It amazes me that in this day and age people will give them money.
I knew a guy and girl who were in their 20's, nice looking, smart, etc. They were heroin addicts. They used to go to downtown Hartford and panhandle for food $$$ (they had a better more lucrative hustle for drugs BTW) The girl asked a guy for a couple of bucks for food. He was like "NO" and went into BK. He saw her go through the garbage can to get a used cup to fill up with soda or coffee. He then came out and said "your really hungry aren't you" and told her and her friend to come in. They ordered like 15$ worth of food and the guy gave them a 20$ bill! Believe it or not the 20$ was not used on drugs. They bought smokes and dinner that night. I am sure if they desperately needed the dope they would of spent it. Now she is clean and doing freaking awesome. Him? who knows.

My answer is from my own experience.
I gave this man $10.00 to go inside the store and get him something to eat. I live in a small town and it seems everyone knows everyone.
I ask the owner of the store, that knows me very well, what that person bought with the money that I gave him.
That guy walked in that store and bought a six pack of Bud and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes.
None the less, I saw this same man about a week later. He ask me for money for something to eat. I said sure come with me. We went inside the store and I said now, you are not getting anything from me because I know what you bought in here the last time. This was said in front of the owner.
That mans face turned beet red..He never came up to my car again. When he saw me drive in, he would walk away from the door.
Some of them are honest but MOST are not.

It depends on my mood.
I am unemployed and when I dress up in a suit and go to an interview downtown, beggars approach me for money. I tell them I don't have a job either and to leave me alone.
If I'm dressed casual and on an errand, I'll say, "No", or "Sorry", or just ignore them and keep walking.
If I'm out just wandering around by myself for fun and I'm feeling relaxed, I may give them some spare change or a dollar.
If I'm with friends having fun, I'll say, "No".
If I'm out drinking with friends, chances are good I'll give them some money.
One time a bum asked me and a friend for money. I said, "No" and my buddy gave him a dollar. The bum started complaining that he should get more. I started towards him to punch him and the guy ran off.
I hate bums who are able to work but won't. But, if I'm feeling in a "karmic" mood, I'll give them money.

I always give them money, if I don't have any change then I just give them something form my shopping bag.
My cousin is a youth worker and I owed him a big favour, so I offered to help him out to find a job for this homeles guy that he wanted to help out.
The guy and I are good friends now, I see him and my cousin most Saturdays when we go out for lunch.
The homeless guy got enough money to do a course and now he is a youth worker alongside my cousin.

I think giving them money only encourages them to continue on their current path. If you really want to eat, you can. There's no excuse to be out on the street begging from people who work for a living. I have given money to people only to see them doing the same thing day in and day out. I even got cursed out once for giving a guy $2. He didn't feel like it was enough. I had my kids with me and I told them, this is why you have to go to school and get a decent job, so that you don't end up like that.

I use to give them money until one day this one guy gave it back to me cause I gave him a few pennies so I stop doing it. If your homeless and you're asking me to spare some change and when I do you give it back that tells me you don't really need my money.

If they are physically able to get jobs at the daily job places, I tell them I have no money, or, when I do, I tell them all the money I have is for my bills. If they appear to be unable to earn their own money, I still usually have no money, so, I tell them where they can go for food. I figure if they are homeless, they have less bills than I do, and I keep my money for myself and my family. (The dogs)

I just dont trust homeless people. My dad once encountered one and this is what happened:
She asked him for $5, so he gave it to her. Then she asked for $10! Greedy *****! I think he took the $5 back.
Anyway, if you really want to help the homeless, dont give money. Give leftover food from restaurants, a blanket, canned food, a pillow, etc. Anything but money...

Depends on the person, if I see them everytime I am downtown (which is daily for work) then I most likley won't give them change more then once or twice. I prefer to buy people asking for money, food instead. I bought someone a hotdog and drink the other day.
