Many automobile manufacturers require special coolants. Not every system is compatible with silicate coolants, (regular coolants.) Look in your owners manual for compatibility ratings and read the ingredients on the back of the bottles of every antifreeze/coolant you can find. Also the back of the bottle should give you every manufacturer the coolant complies with. If in doubt, call a dealer and ask. Better to look ignorant to the OE mechanics then screw up the motor and be sorry because they won't cover the damage.

If I were you, like some of the other people have said, I would check in the owner's manual and it will tell you to use the Mercedes Benz specific coolant. I would say if you really spent 78 grand, and my experience tells me that an R500 at that price is fully loaded, then you should be able to afford to take it to the dealer to have it maintained properly as stated in the manual. Just a thought.

That car will not look like there is much in the coolant tank and there is a coolant level float sensor in the tank and a whole array of warning systems. Please take a little while pull out all the books read and learn things like how to pair your bluetooth phone operate the steering wheel controls and put in important land marks into your navigation system program lighting, locking and get the most out of your new fine automobile

I don't believe you. A 2007 R500 would not need coolant and if it did, it would be covered under warranty. Take that R500 Dodge back the dealer.

Mercedes says you must use only their coolant. But since that car is under warranty take it back to the dealer if it needs coolant. Wait to take it back would mean you actual had to buy the car and if you did you would be smarter than to pick such a crude name or talk like a jerk.

If you need to add coolant in a new car...Take it back to the dealership get it checked out. Also, somewhere near the coolant fill, it should tell you which type to use. I'm guessing here, but you might need to use stuff similar to Peak(brand) International. Is supposedly safe for any coolant out there.

Talk to the dealer's service shop. A car in this class often has more than one cooling system.
I hate to be the one to tell you, but $78,000 cars are not cheap to fix. You have to figure they don't really have that many more parts than other cars costing 25% of the price. Do the math.
