I'm not going to lie, it will hurt and it will be uncomfortable. My surgeon would only do two at a time (i think he wanted to torture me) And the first time my roots hadn't developed and I did ok, minimal swelling and pain. The second time which was like 6 years later (b/c i didn't want to go back) the roots had formed and it hurt but honestly not as bad as I thought it would. I was totally freaked out before the surgery. But it was more uncomfortable than painful. Just make sure you get pain meds, lots of movies, books and soft food. I had them done on a saturday morning and I sat in a leather chair and watched tv for like 3 days. Definately make sure to put ice on and off, it will help with the swelling and made it feel better.
Everyone's experience will be different. Almost every person I talk to has had their wisdom teeth out. I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Good Luck :) It will all be over in a few days

It's a good thing you're getting them taken care of now instead of waiting. You should have a much easier time of it. As for the surgery itself, you won't remember any of it. It's like going to sleep one second and waking up the next, except that your entire upper and lower jaws will be sore and feel like someone replaced them with elastic. That's because during surgery they will put a device in your mouth to keep it open. The pain in your jaw and in the incision sites will ease and get better during the next few days. Every day it will get better, trust me. Just follow what the nurses tell you, and when you're home, keep ahead of the pain. They should give you pain medicine to take for a day or two after surgery; it takes some time for the medicine to work it's way through your system and kick in, so if it's time for your next dose, and you're only hurting a little bit, keep that in mind, and take that medicine. Don't wait for the pain to get worse, keep ahead of it, follow all the post-op instructions they give you, and don't hesitate to call them if you begin having problems, start running a fever or have any questions. You'll get through it fine. I've had four removed on the same day, but was stupid and waited a lot longer than you did; by the time I went to have them removed, two were growing in sideways. Believe me, it's good you're getting it done now! Best wishes, and I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

I was about 17 or 18 when I had my wisdom teeth out and I was really not in that much pain. I too was freaked out about it (had never had surgery or been "put under"), but everything turned out just fine. I didn't experience much pain afterward and my recovery was pretty quick. I didn't care much for the cotton wad in my mouth, but the bleeding didn't last very long, so I didn't have to leave it in very long.
There was only one really wierd thing and I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but as they were putting me under, I felt a very strange sensation in my groin area. Not painful or pleasurable just sort of a wierd feeling. It didn't happen the last time I was put under though, so I don't know what it was.
Anyway, hope all goes well. Oh and don't forget to get ice cream and jello to eat after you have the surgery.

the less the roots are developed the less it will hurt. Also make sure that the surgeon calls in the pain killers to the pharmacy before you go into surgery so the prescription will be filled when you get out of surgery & you can start taking them before the anethesia wears off.

Bring a small cooler with ice packs and apply as soon as you are done. You won't swell or bruise nearly as much.
Trust your doctor, get put to sleep if you can, but even if you can't it is a painless procedure.
Take care honey, you'll be so glad this time tomorrow--it will all be over.
You will get drugs to make you comfortable, take them prudently (don't drink alchohol, etc with them) and take a bit of time to let yourself heal. Plan on a sleepy day after surgery but a rapid recovery.
You'll do great!

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.
Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place
in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.
With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)
I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

I am a dental hygienist for 12 years and yes it does hurt but not bad, they will give you pain medication. You will probably be asleep when they take them out if not ask for the Nitrous Oxide gas to help calm your nerves. You will be sore for about a week or so but you'll be on good drugs so you should be okay. Just try to keep calm and get good sleep tonight.

Follow your dentists orders about aftercare. Don't suck on straws for a while. A dry socket hurts a lot more than having them removed. Both mg daughter and me had our wisdom teeth removed. But we both choose to get knocked out. So it wasn't a big deal. He will give you a painkiller to use at home. good luck.
