It's unfortunate that many people see ignorance as "cool".

Nothing is cooler than smart--you can lose a lot but if you have smarts you'll always be able to make your way. It's sad that so many Americans know nothing of their own history, let alone the world's. To simply chant about how great the US is without having any context of the history behind it--is sad--and dumb.

To feel superior to other cultures when you're ignorant about them is dumb. That is sadly, the new America.

We've also lost a lot of our appreciation of fine art, music, literature.

But there will always be the exceptions and dumb people do make it easier for smart people to rise to the top.

Interesting question.

Dumb is not really the "new smart" in America. The problem has more to do with how education is being taken for granted and how being smart is portrayed in entertainment these days. It is not considered socially acceptable to be outwardly intelligent or to outwardly participate in class by answering every question correctly that the teacher asks or to share your knowledge in class. The reason has to do with political correctness and insecurity. The reason it is not socially acceptable to be outwardly "smart" has is that being "smart" makes other students feel "dumb", and furthermore, some students hate other students who actively participate in class and share knowledge in class has to do with the expectations. Some are afraid that if one student breaks the curve, expectations will be higher and the students will have to work harder in school. Other reasons are that "smart" is a euphemism for boring and therefore "smart" kids have a harder time getting a boyfriend or girlfriend. The fact that it is easier to make a living in America(and even get rich) without being very educated than anywhere else in the world through sports and entertainment. This is why many high school students with marginal GPA's in high school often get to go to top-dollar colleges such as UCLA and UGA because of sports scholarships. Sometimes straight-A students get turned down from those colleges. There is more emphasis on sports than on school.

no dumb is the same old dumb it has always been.

dumb just gets more press now, because so many people waste thier lives watching TV. This extra media attention creates the perception that dumb is fashionable.

specific! you regularly pay attention, "God bless usa." I rather have been saying it's time to coach this around to "usa Bless God" for awhile now. Blessing God is a reliable project to evaluate; basically what can we supply God, the maker of all issues?
