John Ashcroft, Attorney General USA

In February 2002, Ashcroft told the Los Angeles Times that in his opinion "Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sends his son to die for you". [8]

I honestly believe he said this. He is a politician so of course he will say the media got it wrong. But if it was so wrong why did they wait over a year to put out a press release rebutting the article? And really do you believe a guy that has written he had anointied himself, before both terms as Missouri Governor, using cooking oil when no holy oil was available [3]).

The Truth
The comment was broadcast by syndicated columnist Cal Thomas in November, 2002, who says he heard it from Ashcroft himself.
Ashcroft's office, however, released a statement in February, 2003, saying that the reported words "do not accurately reflect what I believe I said."
