My baby girl is 8 1/2 months old. For the past couple of weeks, she has not been eating as well as she used to. She does not want her formula and therefore is only getting about 16 ounces a day. When I try to feed her the bottle, she cries and pushes it away. I have to make it into cereal for her to eat any of it. Also, she doesnt like drinking any water or juice. I am thinking that she is not eating enough as a baby her age should. Anyone with any tips? Thanks!

well i have the exact same problem with my daughter. she is almost 13 month old and sometimes doesnt like the formula. thats normal cause they r teething. it is a short stage they go through it so dont worry about it and try to substuite it with mac and cheese or brockly and cheese it is better. 16 oz is not bad at all if she takes at least 2 -3 solid food everyday.. good luck

She is old enough to be eating a variety of solids and is not going to be requiring a lot of formula. Try introducing her to a sippy cup or a cup with a built in straw. She may just be ready to wean from the bottle. Let her sit in her high chair with a cup of formula or water and a few Cheerios and banana pieces. She may just be ready to move to doing more for herself. Because she will eat cereal and pushes away the bottle, I would offer her more solids and less bottles. You won't be able to make her eat or drink anything that she doesn't want to nor should you force the issue. Eating problems start early and my best advice is offer her a wide variety of healthy food choices and let her choose how much and what she eats.

Babies will eat when they are hungry, sleep when they are sleepy etc... Do not push food upon your baby, it will give her a negative association with food. They know when they are hungry. My son is nine months and they he has his moments when I think he should be hungry but has no interest in eating. Sometimes when they are teething they eat less, and sucking on a bottle hurts their mouth. Don't push her, she will not starve. If you are very concerned talk to the doctor.

this has happened to my nephew and his doctor told my sister that sometimes babies go through a stage where they may not want to eat as much as they normally do but he said as long they are still drinking fluids they will be fine. is your baby eating baby food yet? if not you can try giving her some fruit and see how she does with that and if she eats it try offering her a bottle after she may drink a little. then just take it from there then you can start with the vegs too. you should mention it to your doctor also.

As a parent myself i hope i can help you with some tips.... Most children at that age enjoy their food, but what they really enjoy is the baby food, but also you have to make yummy stuff too you know. My son loved to eat eggs, scrambled, or pretty much anything that was soft. applesauce, pudding, ice cream, cookies( the Baby ones) Homemade mash potateos, and more....At that age they have grown into a phase of table foods and baby foods, and at that age that is what they want. When your child turns one you may be able to give her a milk bottle (real Milk...Yum). But like i said you need to experiment with foods and find the ones she likes....maybe even try mac and cheese every kids favorite. But also make eating fun...every child is going to be messy, let them do it...It isnt hard to clean up after them.

I am not an expert but maybe she doesn't want the bottle. Have you tried introducing the cup? Also there are types of infections such as thrush (sometimes more noticeable than others) than can make it painful when she eats. I had this happen to two of my children I didn't realize what it was until the showed symptoms of white cottony spots in their mouth. They where like your daughter who didn't want to eat.

Relax- babies are programmed to get what they need. They sleep when they're tired and eat when they're hungry. Just like adults, babies go through times when they're more hungry or less hungry than usual. As long as your daughter isn't showing signs of dehydration (dry mouth, decrease in wet diapers, etc.) and continues to follow the growth curve, she should be all right.

My son did the same thing when he was 4mths old too. It was later that we found out he was teething. after his 1st 2 teeth came out, he went back to normal meals again. but everytime he starts teething again he takes in lesser food. that might be 1 possibilities. but thats for him.

She may not be hungry, but you should really consult a Doctor if you are worried. This is too important for amateurs.
