TV today isn't any dumber than it was when I was a kid, and that's a lot of years ago. Nor are kids today stupid. Kids today are unmotivated and disenchanted. Their poorly educated because parents drop them off at school in the morning to be rid of them until 3:00 in the afternoon and don't give a damn when they get home whether they have homework. Kids are poorly educated because they get no encouragement and no support and therefore have no incentive to try. And that has nothing to do with MTV or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I think television does have a different influence on children than it used to. I remember watching Sesame Street and Barney and learning all those little life lessons when I was younger. My brother, who's six years old, is totally different. He watches the stuff on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. The shows are anything but educational, and he learns some crude jokes from them. I learned how to read at three while he's just learning now. True, every child is different, but I do think television programs have a huge effect on children. Be careful what you let your kids watch. What might seem harmless and fun could be frying their brains.
Also, a lot of kids get plopped in front of the TV these days when Mom or Dad has something to do, so the issue isn't just that TV is too dumb, but also that they're just watching too much of it in general. I understand that. I do it to my brother when I babysit for him, but it can get to be too much. Try to incorporate alternatives like puzzle books and crafts.

i'm a young person (sixteen) and that i've got confidence that the lecturers are in charge. all the lecturers at my college do no longer care pertaining to to the scholars--- only the money. I also have a minimum of 6 hours of homework a night and that i slightly learn something from it. it relatively is all busy artwork. yet another try will make it worse. no longer all and sundry is a sturdy try taker. The SATs and ACTs are already no longer common adequate. college on the instant is amazingly complicated and school is going to be lots worse. there is no longer sympathy from adults as a results of fact they did no longer experience what little ones are experiencing on the instant. I do agree that infants are not the place they might desire to be with training, however the finger can't purely be pointed on the scholars. As you will see, my grammar and spelling is a lot diverse than a typical teen (they generally say "howdy wut's up?!?!/a million"). I positioned forth all of my time and attempt into my training, yet that's no longer adequate to any extent further. no remember how lots you attempt in college, it relatively is nevertheless complicated. Adults would desire to stop complaining and help remedy this subject before it is purely too late.

I used to work for SKY TV - I worked in a few callcentres before this, but let me tell you - NEVER have I spoke to such a collection of retards as SKY customers. You would have trouble believing how many of them do not know their own address, or phone numbers - sometimes even their own names. Judging from the conversations I had, a few of them were completely illiterate and inumerate. It's next to impossible to talk someone like that through the menus which appear on screen. I now feel that too much TV can have a negative effect if this is your only source of entertainment and news, and I now do not watch TV at all. Declining standards of programming must also be mentioned as a contributary factor in my decision,as I feel that the quality of programmes, and the way in which the presenters communicate can lead only to one decision - that TV is RETARD FODDER.
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

No, it hasn't.
It has just given the media an all governing power over the ideology of the population, bowing only before religion itself.
I suppose the majority of shows are intellectually degrading, but there are lots of things to learn on tv, and without the media there would be negative consequences as well. It's a two sided problem and benefit.

I'm with nerak - stupid people make stupid kids!
If they watch dumbed down TV, they surely make up for it with other input. Although I can remember my daughter running around talking like a "valley girl" after something she saw on the tube.

No, I think that parents using the TV as a babysitter for very young children instead of providing them with other forms of stimulation and developmentally challenging tasks is mostly responsible, not the TV itself.

The media are to blame, makes you wonder who's it for us or those who are writing the stories, dictating the law and pulling the strings. Sick Aint It. It's the mindless soaps i blame, mindless totally, kids t.v. is the same as it has been, its for kids. it's the adults and what they do and watch that confuses and poisons the kids.

not the dumbing down of t.v but the lack of new or any good resources in school (they are all from 1985). or training teachers to take care of the problem students not just send them to the head of department.

TV is a baby-sitter. Would you allow a babysitter to tell and show the things to your kid as the TV does? Or talk to them that way ? I rest my case...
