The word "trillion" didn't appear in the news until about 5 years ago. How many years have we had trillions of dollars but only spent billions?

It's a great place for all reports of the U.S.

Edit: it's probably been since either late '70s to late '80s

Somewhere in there. But that 'trillian' is basically everything combined from the years past

Yes, it did, when Clinton left, there was a 5.7 trillion dollar surplus. It is gone, our country has a deficit of 17 trillion and growing 6 billion a month just for Iraq. Plenty of it going to Haliburton, Kellogg, Root and Brown and to multi-national conglomerates. Most of it is being borrowed from our great ally, China. The American tax payers will pay for it all for generations to come. Oil companies are making astronomical profits, one in particular,r $80 million a day.

Everyone seems to be happier bickering than finding out what is really going on.

You don't get it. We have billions but Bush has put down a 3rd mortgage on our future that'll cost trillions to pay back with interest. This is how the Weimar republic went into hyperinflation before WW2.
Ask the South and Central American refugees pouring over our borders about hyperinflation. Work like a dog all day and spend that day's pay before it becomes worthless! In 10 years the 100 Grand candybar might cost that much!
