Someone going through a big change may have difficulty defining themselves, unless the goal is itself defined. A medical student is a way to define yourself, which is just as valid as being a doctor. An unemployed person has an image problem concerning their role in society and their identity, but a job seeker does not. Your identity comes with your own definition of yourself, and your perspective.

I've recently been through a divorce, lost my house, lived for a few months with my parents, then moved into my own place for the first time in my life. I am deeply religious, and that has been my one constant through all the changes in the past 2 years. I think my Faith defines my identity more than anything. It shapes who I am, and guides how I react to everything that happens.

I went through a divorce, job loss, move, and house change. In our society you really identify with your occupation. But, since I was losing that too I couldn't use it. I fortunately have other things in my life that are always there for me... like music (guitar) and close family. I'm not religious but I believe the kingdom of god lies within. So, you're always connected to your source. Those are the times that test your character, faith, and confidence. In the movie castaway, tom hanks character says something to the affect: tomorrow the sun will rise, you never know what will come in with the tide. Focus on the possibilities rather than the doubts. Having yourself in the open positive state of mind is so important.

I would think that your heart, soul, spirit and mind define you. What you hold in them tells a lot about you. If your heart is filled with positive things, your soul moral, your spirit right and your mind clear, I would say that defines you as a pretty good person.

i think what defines a person is the way they make decisions or react to them. or if they're in the middle of a big change in their life, it would be how they adapt to that change or even what brought about that change.

Having a grasp on reality, that is, taking a good, honest look at your whole-life situation and then deciding to take the course that would do you and everyone else the most good, without negativity.
