Spray the engine when it is just a little warm (not hot). Soak those parts that are really greasy, but avoid getting too much engine cleaner on electrical parts. Let it soak for 15 minutes (rewet if it drys out) Then carefully wash it off with a hose. Don't spray water into air intake (air cleaner or intake), directly on distributor cap (if you have one) inside your alternator or starter, or other electrical boxes. After you are done, immediately start the engine and allow to warm up. If the engine misses, you may have bad plug wires.

I don't know anything about your car but for sure don't let spark plugs or fuel injectors get wet. It's hard to do that but it can happen. If you have not ever done this before just ask a person at the parts store to show you. I know Advanced Auto store is good at doing that sort of help. Remember the only dumb question is the question you didn't ask. Also the store wants you to come back so they want to help you do things right.

you need to get the engine a little warm,,and then spray it on,,let it set for a while and do its job,,after that you take a good pressure hose and spray it off,,you cannot really cover much up on it,,and there is nothing there that will get wet enough to hurt anything,,if you get the cap and plug wires wet you may have to take the distributor cap off and dry It out,,other than that it will be OK,,good luck with it.

Don't spray it on when the engine is hot. Let it soak for about 10 min. Then hose it off. You shouldn't need to cover anything

What Dianna said; however, be careful and minimize high water pressure around intake areas, air filters, vacuum lines, fuel injectors, and thin wires.
